The TOEFL IBT exam is officially accepted by over 11,000 universities and other institutions in all of Europe and Asia and in over 150 countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The TOEFL IBT exam is a test that measures all four academic English skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing). Therefore, TOEFL scores realistically measure your skills.

Many countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Ireland require IELTS scores to study and apply for jobs. Many professional institutions, immigration agencies and other government agencies around the world also require an IELTS score. More than 10,000 institutions in 140 countries officially recognize the IELTS exam.

In our country, many universities such as Boğaziçi University, Bilgi University, Yeditepe University and Bilkent University accept the IELTS score in order to exempt students from the preparatory class.

 

In addition, many organizations in the private sector in our country require IELTS score for job applications (e.g. Turkish Airlines for pilot recruitment, banking etc.)

 

IELTS EXAM CONTENT IELTS

 

is a task-based exam covering four language skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking).

 

IELTS candidates receive separate grades for the four components of the exam. The average of these grades constitutes the overall exam score. Each skill is assessed between 1-9 points. The IETS score is determined out of 9 by averaging the score of 4 skills.

 

There are 2 types of IELTS exams; Academic and General.

 

Academic IELTS are applied to people who want to study in English-speaking countries. General IELTS are applied to those who wish to apply for work in English-speaking countries or to apply as immigrants to the same countries.

 

In Academic and General IELTS exams, the listening and speaking sections are common. The difference is only in the reading and writing sections.

 

Academic IELTS exam "reading" section contains more education-related academic subjects, while General IELTS includes current subjects.

 

In the Academic IELTS exam, you are asked to write 2 essays in the” writing" section. In the first, you are asked to comment on a chart or table, while in the second, you are asked to write an essay on an educational topic. In the General IELTS exam, you write a letter on a subject in the first part (Task 1), and in the second part you write an essay on a general subject (Task 2).

 

TOTAL TEST TIME

 

The IELTS exam consists of 4 stages. Total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

* Listening (30 Minutes)

* Reading (60 Minutes)

* Writing (60 Minutes)

* Speech (11-14 Minutes).

 

Listening, Reading and writing exams are held in one session and speaking exams are held in a separate session. These two sessions can be held on the same day or on a different day. When applying for the exam, the day and time of the speech exam are also determined.

PTE (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a new computer-based International Academic English exam. The exam is aimed at scoring by accurately measuring the listening, reading, speaking and writing skills of non-native English speakers and who have to prove their academic English proficiency.

PTE Academic makes real measurements of participants' language skills for universities, higher education institutions, government departments and institutions that require academic English.

 

The PTE exam is an alternative to TOEFL, IELTS and YDS exams, which have official equivalency by YÖK and also by many foreign universities.

 

An advantage of the PTE Academic exam is that the result is announced within 5 working days.

It is a Foreign Language Level determination exam and is conducted by OSYM.

Apart from English, the test which is held in various languages including German and French, takes 180 minutes. The test consists of 80 questions, including sentence completion, translation, dialogue and paragraph completion, and reading parts.

 

E-YDS, the electronic form of YDS, has started to be implemented as of 2014. E-YDS is an equivalent of YDS, so the content is the same as the paper based version, YDS. E-YDS is applied in centers with special computer hardware prepared by OSYM.

YOKDIL (Foreign Language examination of Higher Education Institutions) is organized in cooperation with Anadolu University and Ankara University under the Coordination of YOK (Higher Education Council). It is a test that determines the language proficiency of the candidates who will apply for post-graduate studies as well as public institutions.

It is a foreign language exam in 3 different fields; Science, Health Sciences and Social Sciences.

 

* The total time given to candidates in the exam is 180 minutes. Candidates are asked a total of 80 questions in of the three fields.

 

YÖKDIL exam is an exam that parallels YDS but has some differences. These differences;

* In YDS, candidates are asked 6 translation questions, while in YOKDIL there are 12 translation questions.

 

* There are 20 Questions paragraph questions in YDS, while this number was reduced to 15 in YOKDIL exam.

 

• Also, paraphrase question type, which is usually challenging for students in YDS, is not included in the YOKDIL exam.

YDT (Foreign Language Test) is organized by OSYM with the aim of selecting and placing students to higher education language programs.

The exam has 80 questions and lasts 120 minutes.

 

It consists of general vocabulary, grammar, translation and reading comprehension sections. The question types are as follows:

5-Paraphrase

6-Paragraph Questions

7-Paraphrase

8- Paragraph Completion

Proficiency exams take an average of 3-4 hours, which differs according to universities.

The exam consists of 3 main sections (reading, listening and writing) in general. In some universities, these departments are added in addition to speaking.

 

* In the reading section, academic reading texts are given and detailed questions about these texts are asked. * In the listening section questions are asked after listening on different topics. There are sections called while listening and after listening.

 

* In the writing section students are asked to write different essay types (argumentative, opinion etc.).

 

• In the speaking section, students' ability to speak is evaluated by asking questions about both general and special topics.
