Depression? Masked depression? A state of unhappiness?

“I'm depressed”, which falls on our tongue even in our little unhappiness... what is depression, which is one of the simple, difficult-to-live, pathological disorders?

There are times when we are unhappy in the flow of life, too tired to want to get out of bed. We don't want to go to work, school, we're not even interested in our favourite activities. Most people have encountered such a situation for once in their lives. In our lives, unhappiness is a natural emotion that we can encounter just as much as happiness. When we are accompanied by unhappiness and fatigue, when we do not want to do anything, some questions circulate in our minds.

Am I depressed?

For a person to be described as depressed, they must be at least 15 days of emotional state: unhappy, helpless, and depressed. Excessive weight loss or weight gain may also be observed with decreased appetite. The accompanying condition is the loss of energy. You don't want to step into a place where you used to run. You'll have trouble concentrating “by now." Your gratuitous bodily pain is also with you wherever you go. Although they are very restless and want to cry, 44% of people cannot cry. Even starting any activity, not just crying, can become a torment for you. ‘But anyone who has a reason to live can overcome any adversity’ says Nietzsche.

Does being depressed make you weak?

Depression as a mood disorder makes you feel powerless and depressed. Although the state of unhappiness manifests itself uncontrollably, remember that you are in control. By stepping out of the victim role, being the party that chooses and acts leads you to change. Change occurs only with continuity. In time, everything will be fine.

Think about your loved ones ... when they are unhappy, would sharing their feelings make them powerless? Or would we want them to listen and share their problems with us? Many people overcome difficulties with love. Then we must learn to love ourselves. When you have this awareness and patiently get through this period, you will also learn to love yourself. Most of the time, you may want to be alone, but maintaining your ties, communicating with family and friends will be your greatest help.

What is masked depression?

People who experience "masked depression" are those who look happy to others and suffer from the inside when there is always a smile on their face. In this type of depression, where affective disorders are not obvious, a person usually experiences psychosomatic disorders. Psychosomatic disorders mean that the pains in our soul return to the pains in our body. Sleep disorders, gastrointestinal problems, skin problems, chronic head or abdominal pain may occur. Another problem encountered in masked depression patients is that they have the flu too often and cannot recover. A physiological cause cannot be found as a result of the tests by doctors in these patients. It is observed that the body cannot hide its sad reactions, expressing them in its own language.

How do I find energy for my responsibilities?

Most people with depression experience loss of energy, reluctance, problems with motivation and focus, feelings of anxiety, despair and pessimism, decreased appetite and intense muscle and bone novelties. Despite all this, there may be a homework we need to complete, children we need to feed and those who need to be taken from the course may be your boss waiting for you at work. You must fulfil your responsibilities, but how can you achieve this?

First, remember that you need to go through a difficult process before you can eagerly fulfil these responsibilities. You have to hold tight on to your hope that you will recover over time and that your life energy will return. Talk to people you trust around you when you feel worthless. Trusting activates a sense of happiness. It'll be good to talk to someone who cares about you.

Should I get help?

You can also say,” I can't find people around me that I can trust." As a result of research conducted in Turkey, only 10b% of people can trust someone. We find that insecurity is quite common. Then we can share our problems with an expert. Because of the confidentiality and reliability of the principles of psychological counselling, your secrets will remain where they are spoken. Keep in mind that you can be better off getting professional help from the right people.
