Adult Counseling

At certain times of their lives, people may face problems which they have difficulty in solving. Psychological problems can spread to all areas of daily life and cause the quality of life to decrease. Thus, one cannot use his / her emotional, psychological and intellectual capacity efficiently. Getting help from an expert during this period helps to recognize options, make efficient use of resources available, and influence psychological well-being positively.

Telling about your problems to a Psychological Counselor is different from telling to your best friend. Psychological counseling offers you more than just talking to a friend; when you talk to a psychological counselor, the whole conversation is only dedicated to you under the principle of confidentiality. Your friends' and family's comments and suggestions may be nonobjective and biased, whereas counselors are neutral and not critical, and only try to understand you and your situation in the best possible way.
Of course, not! Receiving psychological counseling does not mean that you are weakling or powerless. The person who decides to receive psychological guidance is the only person who becomes aware of his / her problems, tries to solve it and knows that it is good for him to get help while dealing with difficulties. Remember that “Difficulties make life interesting and overcoming them makes life meaningful.” Joshua J. Marine.
During the counseling process, your counselor will provide you with a safe environment to put your thoughts and feelings into words. This allows you to better understand your feelings and thoughts and gain control over them. Confronting them rather than ignoring and pretending that they are absent gives a certain relief and hope.
  • He / She listens to you at the beginning of the consultancy process, makes the necessary evaluations, sets goals with you in confidentiality and professional relationship and starts to work in this direction.
  • He / She listens to you with a great sincerity, without judging you and asks questions to get to know you better.
  • A psychological counselor is the person who helps you understand yourself and your problem better and thus he / she solves your problem, but not the person who advises you on how to live.
  • He / She tries not to be biased and but to be sensitive to your beliefs, values and thoughts.
  • He / She may refer you to other experts when he / she deems necessary for your benefit.
  • He talks to you about your problems, but he cannot solve your problems on your behalf, because only “you” know the details of the processes and difficulties in your life well, “you” can decide on the most appropriate solution, and “you” can apply these solutions and changes to your life. Remember, counselors do not have a magic wand.
  • The counselor does not give advice or try to convince you to follow a certain path, but he / she provides you with a safe environment to better understand yourself, start solving problems and develop your skills.
